Description

The Government of Peru, through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, signed a loan for US$100 million with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to finance the second phase of the Agricultural Health and Food Safety Development Program, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation through SENASA. The main purpose of this initiative is to eliminate the fruit fly in the departments of Tumbes, Amazonas, Cajamarca, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Apurímac, Cusco and Puno, as well as to eradicate diseases affecting swine in the country. In addition, it seeks to strengthen safety in the production and primary processing of food and feed, promoting appropriate production, hygiene, processing, storage and distribution practices in products with a high risk of contamination.
