Description
Nicaragua's National Climate Change Policy, approved by decree, is an integral part of the climate management system established in 2021 and seeks to urgently address climate change through principles of climate justice, sustainable development, and equity. The principles include reparation of losses and damages, gender equity, and an intergenerational approach to ensure youth participation in climate actions. In addition, it emphasizes shared responsibility between different levels of government and communities, including dialogue between traditional and modern knowledge. The policy also promotes climate finance management and fosters a climate culture through education and research, particularly among young people. With its implementation, Nicaragua seeks to be a model of inclusive and effective climate action in Latin America.
