Law No. 31168: Law Promoting the Empowerment of Rural and Indigenous Women

Law No. 31168 establishes measures to strengthen, through affirmative action, the empowerment, equal opportunities, and comprehensive development of rural and Indigenous women in Peru. The law seeks to enhance their economic, cultural, and social autonomy through training programs, support for productive activities, and financing mechanisms. It recognizes rural women as those who live in rural areas and engage directly or indirectly in activities related to rural productivity and sustainability, whether or not such activities are remunerated or recognized by official information systems. The Law also declares the creation of the Rural and Indigenous Women's Entrepreneurship Fund, under the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, to be of public necessity and national interest, with the purpose of financing productive ventures developed by rural and Indigenous women.
