Forests, Territories of Life: Comprehensive Strategy for Deforestation Control and Forest Management (EICDGB)
Start Date:
2018
End Date:
2030
Description
National strategy aimed at reducing deforestation and forest degradation through forest management under a sustainable integrated rural development approach, which constitutes the national REDD+ Strategy of Colombia under the UNFCCC. It sets 2030 targets of zero gross deforestation, a reduction of 32.4 Mt CO2eq through avoided deforestation, a positive forestry trade balance and improved quality of life for local populations in forest areas. It is organized into five lines of action: sociocultural forest management and public awareness; development of a forest economy and closure of the agricultural frontier, including community forestry, zero-deforestation agreements with agricultural value chains and agri-environmental models in stabilization zones; cross-sectoral management of land-use planning and of land use, occupation and tenure conflicts; permanent monitoring and control, including early deforestation alerts and the promotion of forest legality; and strengthening of legal, institutional and financial capacities.
