Panama National Policy for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management 2022–2030

Start Date: 2022
End Date: 2030

Description

Panama’s National Policy for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management (2022–2030) provides the country’s overarching public policy framework for strengthening territorial resilience, reducing socio-environmental vulnerabilities, and advancing climate change adaptation. The policy sets out strategic guidelines for disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery, while integrating principles of sustainability, multi-level governance, ecosystem protection, land-use planning, and climate risk management. The policy further promotes interinstitutional coordination, community participation, local capacity building, and the mainstreaming of disaster risk management into sectoral and territorial planning processes. It is aligned with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and broader international resilience and sustainable development agendas.
