Peru: Law No. 29196 Law for the Promotion of Organic or Ecological Production

The purpose of this Law is to promote the sustainable and competitive development of organic or ecological production in Peru. To this end, it establishes as specific objectives: to encourage and promote organic production as a tool to contribute to overcoming poverty, guaranteeing food security and conserving ecosystems and biological diversity; to promote this form of production as a viable alternative for the economic and social development of the country, improving the quality of life of producers and consumers; to clearly define the functions and competencies of the institutions responsible for its promotion and control; and to strengthen the National System of Control and Supervision of Organic Production, in order to ensure the authenticity and quality of organic products.
