Description
The National Forest Conservation Program for Climate Change Mitigation, created by Executive Decree No. 008-2010-MINAM, is a Peruvian government initiative aimed at conserving 54 million hectares of tropical forests as a contribution to climate change mitigation. This program implements mechanisms of conditional direct transfers to native and rural communities, promotes sustainable production systems, and strengthens capacities for forest conservation. It constitutes a key instrument to reduce deforestation, preserve biodiversity, maintain ecosystem services, and improve the quality of life of forest-dependent local populations. It represents Peru's commitment to global climate goals.
