CONPES 3675: National policy to improve the competitiveness of the Colombian dairy sector

The Policy's main objective is to improve the competitiveness of the dairy sector in Colombia. This is sought through a series of strategies and instruments aimed at reducing production costs and increasing productivity, in order to deepen and diversify both internal and external markets. The policy is framed in the context of the internationalization of the Colombian economy and the challenges arising from international trade agreements. The specific objectives of the policy include: reducing production costs in key producing micro-basins, promoting associativity and integration in producing areas, developing productive clusters in areas with competitive advantages, expanding and supplying internal and external markets with high-quality dairy products at competitive prices, and strengthening the institutional management of the dairy sector, particularly in terms of information and legal control. The proposed action plan focuses on several key areas: first, improving productivity at the primary level by promoting food alternatives and implementing agro-silvopastoral systems, among others; second, establishing a genetic improvement plan to optimize the genetic composition of livestock; Third, develop the agricultural input market to reduce costs; and finally, promote integration and association schemes to improve economies of scale and negotiating capacity in the production chain.
