Law 811 of 2003: Value Chain Organizations in the Agricultural, Fisheries, Forestry and Aquaculture Sectors and Agricultural Transformation Companies

Law 811 of 2003 amends Law 101 of 1993 and establishes the legal framework for the creation, registration and operation of value chain organizations in Colombia's agricultural, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries sectors. These organizations coordinate producers, processors, marketers, distributors and service and input providers through agreements aimed at improving productivity and competitiveness, developing markets, reducing transaction costs, strengthening strategic alliances, improving information, integrating small producers, promoting sustainable natural-resource management, and fostering research and technological development. The law also creates Agricultural Transformation Companies (SAT), mainly for post-harvest activities, marketing and the provision of common services.
