This Policy presents the guidelines to orient, at the national level, all activities related to the biosafety of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs), in order to comply with the commitments acquired and ratified at the country level in the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, as part of the Convention on Biological Diversity. This policy integrates the biosafety of LMOs with the development opportunities that may arise from their use, in order to guarantee the protection of biological diversity and the environment, while generating opportunities for technological and economic growth for the country. The operational lines of action are: Institutionality: development of mechanisms and instruments to regulate the safe use of living modified organisms, Capacity building, Transparency and citizen participation, and Research and development.
