Description
Supreme Decree No. 017-2017-SA, published on June 17, 2017, approves the Regulation of Peru's Law No. 30021 on the Promotion of Healthy Eating for Children and Adolescents. The regulation establishes provisions for implementing the measures established by the law and promoting healthy food environments, particularly for children and adolescents. It addresses food and nutrition education, the promotion of physical activity, healthy food kiosks, dining facilities and cafeterias in educational institutions, and requirements applicable to advertising processed foods and non-alcoholic beverages. It also develops obligations concerning advertising warnings and consumer information in accordance with applicable legal and technical provisions. Its scope includes individuals and legal entities involved in manufacturing, marketing, importing, supplying or advertising processed foods in Peru, as well as public and private institutions covered by its provisions. For agrifood systems, the regulation is relevant to food environments, consumer information, commercial practices and the promotion of healthy diets. It is a national regulatory instrument rather than a food assistance program or agricultural production policy. Its application must take into account subsequent regulatory amendments and complementary technical instruments, including the Advertising Warnings Manual approved by Supreme Decree No. 012-2018-SA.
