Peru: Law No. 30988 to promote the reduction and prevention of food losses and waste

Description
The purpose of this Law is to prevent and reduce food losses and waste throughout the food chain, from primary production to final consumption. To this end, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), in coordination with the competent sectors and within its powers and budget availability, will implement strategic actions aimed at this purpose. It adopts the following actions:
- Promotes and strengthens training activities and promotion of good practices in food handling, at all stages of the food chain.
- Promotes the implementation of programs and projects to reduce and prevent food losses and waste at the national, regional and local levels.
- Conducts the respective analysis and evaluation of projects aimed at the reduction and prevention of food loss and waste, in order to correct the shortcomings detected and replicate successful experiences related to good practices on the subject.
- Promotes the participation of the private sector and the population in general in the measures aimed at achieving the objective set forth in this Law.
- Promotes scientific and technological capacity and the training of researchers specialized in the reduction and prevention of food losses and waste.
