Description

The Observatory of Agriculture and the Environment of Western Mexico was created at the Colegio de Michoacán in response to the potential and importance of the Mexican agricultural sector and to understand the problems it faces in its diversity and complexity. Among the activities carried out are: 1. to integrate a diagnosis of the social, economic and environmental conditions of agricultural and agroindustrial production in the states of the western region. To this end, design, develop and implement methodologies to collect and analyze data and translate them graphically. 2. Construct economic, social and environmental indicators. Develop evaluation schemes for these aspects. 3. Present the information in seminars or meetings where decision makers participate in order to encourage them to appropriate the results presented by the Observatory. 4. To build a database on agriculture/agro-industry in the region. To design and implement a Web portal for data consultation. 5. Publish the results for specialized audiences (book chapters and/or articles for scientific journals) and for the general public (dissemination). 6. Identify priority research topics that El Colegio de Michoacán will be able to address in the medium term.
