Description

It is a regional network made up of multiple information, research and dissemination centers interested in promoting the exchange and management of knowledge on food and nutritional security. To date, the ODA-LAC has more than 70 member universities from 17 countries in the region, which also promote the active participation of the academic world in the construction of public policies aimed at guaranteeing the Human Right to Adequate Food. Specifically, the Observatory promotes the generation of studies, indicators and recommendations that can be very useful in the processes of development, implementation and monitoring of legislation and/or public policies applied at the local, national or regional level. Among its main actions, an annual call for research on the Human Right to Food and one regional meeting per year stand out, in which delegates from the different member universities share knowledge and coordinate actions to make effective the path towards the eradication of hunger and malnutrition. The Observatory has a Technical Secretariat in charge of representing all its members and coordinating its main activities carried out at regional or international level. It is a governing body made up of seven annually elected members who receive permanent technical and administrative support from the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.
