Description
The article presents the findings of a scientific study that has mapped the network of underground organisms that connect trees around the world, using a database of more than 28,000 tree species living in more than 70 countries.
The study indicates the existence of two main fungi, ectomycorrhizal (EM) and arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) and that in cold and temperate forests the former predominate, while in the warmer tropics AM dominate. These models could help researchers build better informatics to predict how much carbon will accumulate in forests and how much will be released into the atmosphere as the climate warms,
