Description
The study was conducted in 25 countries in the region between 2020 and 2021 to learn about the current state of innovation ecosystems according to the voices and experience of those who have led and developed national and international initiatives that contribute to the promotion of innovation and the development of startups in the continent. This consisted of qualitative (through semi-structured interviews) and quantitative (through online surveys) research involving 227 actors in the region, with more than 80 interviews and 200 surveys conducted. The study found that innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems in the region vary in depth and development, divided into four groups (consolidated, developing, nascent and incipient), with financing being the dimension that requires the most support and human capital the most prominent. According to the survey, 96% of the countries prioritize incubators and accelerators, 71% venture capital investment and 54% public sector improvement.
