Description

This report describes and presents the results of the Broadband Development Index (BDI) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The main objective of the ABDI is to measure the digital divide in LAC by assessing broadband development in the 26 borrowing countries of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and also in additional benchmark countries in other regions (65 nations in total). The IDB's mission is to assist development in LAC and to finance efforts to reduce poverty and social inequality in the region. The ABDI will help focus IDB financing for projects that have among their objectives the development of broadband in a region or country. The ABDI is a powerful tool to identify the magnitude of the digital divide through two different geographic approaches.
