Description

Tropical race 4, a single pathogenic clone, has been threatening world banana production since its impact on the Cavendish plantations in Taiwan, and has been rampant in Southeast Asia across China's Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Yunnan provinces and Hainan Island since the 1990s. It has also wiped out plantations of the same species in Indonesia and Malaysia; so far, R4T may have affected some 100,000 hectares, with the potential to spread further. The article discusses the geographical locations of FOC R4T on the continent.
