Presents a review of lessons from the race 1 epidemics of FOC in the Americas, outlining measures aimed at preventing and reducing risks from the introduction of exotic pathogens at the farm level, measures that should be the shared responsibility of NPPOs and growers. The main influencing variables are the movement of plant material that generates dispersal, water and free movement of farm machinery, animals and people.
