Description

Genetic relatedness between vegetative compatibility groups (VGCs) of F. oxysporum sp. cubense was studied by nuclear and two mitochondrial DNA sequencing in a collection of 70 isolates including 20 VGCs of the pathogen and other specific non-pathogenic forms. Phylogenetic relationships between F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense and other specific forms of F. oxysporum and relationships between GVC's and races of F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense clearly showed that the ability of F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense to cause disease in banana, there is a possibility that the lineages are of recent sexual origin.
