Description
Agriculture and food systems are vital for the present and future of all inhabitants of Latin America and the Caribbean, both for the 40% living in rural areas and for those living in cities (Trivelli and Berdegué 2019). Therefore, the need to rethink the way agriculture is practiced in the region is imperative, both to address existing problems and to prevent others from worsening. This document, through the study of seven successful pathways of sustainable and resilient production in Latin America and the Caribbean, aims to demonstrate that such initiatives are feasible and bring multiple benefits across the entire spectrum of sustainable development. Furthermore, to support decision-makers, it identifies elements that facilitate their scaling. The initiatives studied focus on the agricultural production sector, including crops, livestock, forests, fishing, and aquaculture.
