Description

In brief version of the FAO report on the state of agricultural commodity markets in 2026. Food and agricultural trade increased fivefold between 2000 and 2024 as low- and middle-income countries became increasingly integrated into global markets. The report examines how extreme weather events, conflicts, pandemics, macroeconomic pressures and financial crises affect trade, how disruptions are transmitted through trade linkages, and what this means for food security. It highlights how stronger trade connectivity can improve the capacity to respond to shocks and analyses the effects of export restrictions, food reserves, international cooperation and other policy choices on prices, market resilience and food security.
