Description

Agro-meteorological bulletin for Trinidad and Tobago covering 1-15 October 2026. It forecasts below-normal rainfall with a probability of 50% or greater, although wet days are expected on 2-5, 8-9 and 12-13 October. It indicates an 80% probability of moderately severe heat lasting three days across eastern Trinidad and Tobago, a drought watch for Tobago and northeast Trinidad, and a Yellow-level Hot Spell Alert through 31 October. For the preceding period, it reports 28.9 mm of rainfall at Crown Point and 57.8 mm at Piarco. Potential agricultural impacts include heat stress in poultry and small livestock, increased evaporation, reduced soil moisture, wilting, flooding of low-lying fields, moisture-related diseases and wind damage. Suggested actions include monitoring livestock heat stress and water use, maintaining field water storage, conserving soil moisture through mulching and trenches, controlling weeds and pests, maintaining windbreaks and irrigating crops, particularly during flowering.
