Description
The Government of Rio Grande do Sul presents the main findings of Bulletin 79 of the Permanent Council for Applied Agrometeorology of Rio Grande do Sul (COPAAERGS), coordinated by the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation. The document provides a climate outlook and technical recommendations for agricultural activities from October to December 2026. The period is expected to be strongly influenced by El Niño, with rainfall above average across southern Brazil, particularly in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. Frequent episodes of heavy rainfall, storms, strong wind gusts and hail are expected in Rio Grande do Sul. These conditions may support the development of summer crops and pastures, while excess soil moisture and reduced solar radiation may create challenges for planting and managing crops such as soybeans, maize and irrigated rice. Technical recommendations include keeping soils covered to reduce erosion and nutrient losses, improving soil water storage capacity and establishing water reserves in response to the high spatial and temporal variability of rainfall.
