Description

The publication reports the launch of an Action Plan by Peru's Ministry of Production to improve the preparedness, prevention and response of aquaculture producers to the 2026-2027 El Niño phenomenon. The measure follows a 10.5 percent decline in Peruvian aquaculture production during 2025, to 105,324 tonnes, and an ENFEN Coastal El Niño alert. The plan includes a monthly Aquaculture Vulnerability and Risk Matrix, preventive training, monitoring and early-warning channels, coordination with FONDEPES to design preventive and recovery credit, flexibility for payment obligations and a health contingency plan implemented by SANIPES. It seeks to reduce infrastructure and biomass losses and ensure continuity of aquaculture activities.
