Description

The Panama Canal Authority announced temporary modifications to its Transit Reservation System for Neopanamax vessels, effective August 30, 2026, for booking dates beginning September 13. The revised rules allow customers to obtain more than one slot for the same booking date or for consecutive dates and permit vessel swaps or substitutions subject to capacity requirements and customer limits. The system will offer 63 weekly slots, including allocations under the LoTSA and NetZero programs, and establishes minimum allocations for full-container vessels, LPG vessels, LNG vessels, vehicle carriers, RoRo vessels, bulkers, and other segments. The measure seeks to distribute available capacity more equitably, reduce unused capacity, preserve transparent competition rules, and encourage efficient water use while the Canal watershed continues to experience a water deficit.
