Description

Digital agricultural drought monitoring and early warning tool implemented by Panama''s Ministry of Agricultural Development with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. ASIS uses satellite information to monitor agricultural areas and pastures, detect water stress conditions, and assess the intensity, duration and spatial extent of drought during crop development. The tool generates information adapted to the national territory using land-use data, planting dates, crop-cycle duration and crop coefficients. Its results support public institutions and agricultural producers in identifying potentially affected areas, managing risks and making anticipatory decisions to reduce the impacts of drought on agricultural production and food security.
