Anticipatory Action: Honduras Activation 2026

The mechanism uses seasonal rainfall forecasts and pre-agreed activation thresholds to anticipate possible drought impacts in the departments of El Paraíso and Francisco Morazán. In March 2026, the forecasts reached the established thresholds, enabling the release of US$4 million from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to protect up to 65,000 people. Actions include food assistance, distribution of seeds, fertilizers and agricultural inputs, installation and rehabilitation of irrigation and water systems, agroclimatic alerts, disease surveillance, primary health care, and prevention and treatment of malnutrition. The interventions are implemented by FAO, PAHO, UNICEF and WFP, in coordination with the Government of Honduras and with support from OCHA.
