Inter-American Development Bank discussion paper analyzing the coffee and cocoa value chains in Venezuela, with emphasis on agribusiness, productivity, competitiveness, international integration, governance, institutions, producer organization, finance, quality, traceability and sustainability. The study argues that Venezuela needs to strengthen its participation in global value chains, especially those based on coffee and cocoa, and proposes the development of national plans for both value chains as a basis for building trust among public and private actors, improving product quality, promoting public goods and support services, strengthening technical assistance and rural extension, modernizing quality infrastructure, supporting research and innovation, improving access to finance, and increasing the volume, complexity and value of exports of beans, intermediate products and derivatives.
