AGRO RURAL reports that more than 35,000 farming families in 14 regions now have secured water for their fields through the construction of qochas (rainwater ponds), reservoirs and conveyance canals under the Recarga Hídrica project, with storage capacity exceeding 8 million cubic metres of rainwater. Developed over four years in high-Andean micro-watersheds, the project also includes the restoration of degraded rangelands in Áncash, Apurímac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huánuco, Huancavelica, Junín, La Libertad, Lima, Moquegua, Pasco and Puno, improving natural water retention and forage availability.
