ENFEN Official Communiqué No. 12-2026

ENFEN maintains the "Coastal El Niño Alert" status and projects that the event, which began in March 2026 in the Niño 1+2 region, will extend through the summer of 2027, with strong magnitude until October and moderate from November onward. For the Niño 3.4 region, El Niño is expected to begin in June 2026, reaching strong magnitude between August 2026 and February 2027; for the July–September quarter, above-normal air temperatures are anticipated along the entire coast, with normal to above-normal rainfall in the northern coast. The communiqué advises decision-makers to incorporate current risk scenarios into disaster risk reduction measures and preparedness for the rainy season from September 2026 to April 2027.
