Ecuador's MAGP presents contingency plan in anticipation of a possible El Niño event

Ecuador's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries presented the "Contingency Plan for the El Niño Event," setting out preventive measures to reduce impacts on agricultural, fishing and aquaculture production, protect rural livelihoods and strengthen food security through interinstitutional coordination and technical support. The plan details sector-specific actions, including mapping of flood-risk areas, use of resistant crop varieties, definition of safe zones for livestock, and reinforcement of shrimp-farming infrastructure, alongside market diversification and agricultural insurance uptake.
