The FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean reports on the outcomes of the first High-Level Technical Meeting convened by Uruguay's CELAC Pro Tempore Presidency, with participation from ministers, deputy ministers, and technical officials from 15 countries in the region. The meeting analyzed the effects of the Middle East conflict on regional agri-food systems and their projected medium-term impacts. FAO's recommendations include developing alternative trade routes and contingency logistics for fertilizers and energy products, reinforcing market monitoring systems and supply chain analysis, expanding regional strategic reserves of fertilizers, strengthening storage and distribution infrastructure, protecting food consumption among vulnerable households amid rising energy prices, and preserving humanitarian logistics channels.
