ENFEN Official Communiqué No. 10-2026: Coastal El Niño Alert with outlook through February 2027
Alert-notification
29/05/2026
Description
Peru's Multisectoral ENFEN Commission maintains the Coastal El Niño Alert and projects its continuation through February 2027, most likely at moderate magnitude. In parallel, it anticipates the development of El Niño in the central equatorial Pacific (Niño 3.4 region) from June 2026 to February 2027, most probably at weak intensity, with moderate intensity possible by November-December. For the June-August quarter, normal rainfall is expected along the northern coast and normal river flows in the Pacific Hydrographic Region. In fisheries, warming conditions will continue to displace anchoveta to deeper waters and southward. The communiqué calls on decision-makers to incorporate seasonal forecasts into disaster risk reduction strategies, with particular attention to the upcoming rainy season.
