Technical report
2026
Description
The report Perspectives on Agriculture and Rural Development in the Americas 2025-2026, prepared by ECLAC, FAO, CAF and IICA, analyzes challenges and opportunities for Latin America and the Caribbean to increase agricultural productivity with sustainability and inclusion. The document argues that productivity is key to strengthening agrifood systems, improving food security, increasing rural incomes, supporting employment and enhancing resilience. It notes that regional agricultural TFP grew by nearly 53% between 1990 and 2010, but increased by only 5% between 2011 and 2020, while around 75% of output growth came from greater input use. The report proposes a roadmap based on enabling policies, financing, technical assistance and rural extension, technological and digital innovation, efficient use of inputs and resources, sustainable production systems, value addition at origin and international trade.
