Description

The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi) reported that, according to the seasonal forecast for the May-July 2026 period, above-normal air temperatures are expected along much of the Peruvian coast due to persistent warm sea surface conditions associated with the Coastal El Niño phenomenon. Light, localized rainfall is also possible along the northern coast during May, along with an increase in the heat index during the day along the central and northern coasts. According to ENFEN Communiqué No. 9-2026, the Coastal El Niño Alert status will remain in effect until at least February 2027.
