Description

This document analyzes the potential of local public food procurement (LPFP) targeting family farming as a policy tool to improve food security and nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean. Drawing on evidence from Brazil, Guatemala, and Honduras, it documents positive impacts on food production, dietary diversification, income, employment, and women's inclusion. It identifies two key enabling conditions to maximize these effects: supportive regulatory frameworks and the systematic reduction of barriers to institutional market access. The report proposes five strategic axes of recommendations aimed at regional policymakers.
