Description

Almost half of the pesticides used on major agricultural crops in Latin America are banned or not authorized in the European Union due to their risks to health and the environment, according to a scientific study that compared regulations in eight countries in the region and the EU, revealing a profound regulatory inequality. These chemicals, which are more common in crops with high export value, increase the exposure of workers and the general population through food, water, and air, and experts warn that in order to protect health and the environment, it is urgent to close these regulatory gaps and ban highly dangerous substances.
