Green jobs, better quality jobs? A look from PIAAC data
Technical report
28/11/2025
Description
This study examines differences in job quality between green and non-green occupations using data from the PIAAC survey, with an emphasis on wage income. The analysis compares the cases of Mexico, Chile, and Ecuador with patterns observed in high- and middle-income OECD countries. When controlling for cognitive skills and other variables, wage premiums are found in green jobs in Latin America and middle-income OECD countries, but not in high-income countries. The study also considers other dimensions of job quality—such as automation risk, formality, job satisfaction, and access to training—strengthening the evidence that green jobs offer additional benefits.
