Policy brief
21/11/2025
Description
The 20x20 Initiative is a regional effort in Latin America and the Caribbean that, within the framework of the UN Decade for Restoration, aims to protect and restore more than 50 million hectares of landscapes (forests, agriculture, grasslands, and wetlands) by 2030, bringing together governments, the private sector, and technical partners to strengthen climate resilience and sustainability.
Its 2024-2030 Strategy, developed collaboratively with more than 60 experts, is organized around four pillars:
1. Policy: regulatory frameworks, incentives, and governance for restoration.
2. Private finance: investments in regenerative businesses and sustainable landscapes.
3. Knowledge: learning communities and innovative tools.
4. Gender and social equity: ensuring that restoration is inclusive and equitable.
