Description

This presentation highlights agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean as a key pillar for economic, social, and environmental development: it generates jobs, sustains millions of families, and provides vital biodiversity and ecosystem services. Yet, the region faces a challenging context marked by conflicts, economic crises, and extreme climate events that have heightened food insecurity and exposed vulnerabilities in production systems. In this scenario, international trade emerges as a strategic ally, helping diversify food supply, stabilize prices, and ensure more equitable access to resources. While LAC holds a privileged position as a dominant player in global food trade, improving competitiveness, productivity, and logistics remains essential. The core message is to advance toward more integrated, sustainable, and coordinated policies that strengthen regional integration, promote innovation, and ensure fair compensation for producers’ contribution.
