This text addresses the issue of the aging farming population in Costa Rica’s family agriculture sector and the challenge of incorporating youth into this field. Through an interview with Pedro Boareto, FAO specialist, structural barriers faced by rural youth are highlighted, along with the importance of their participation in decision-making and strategies to confront economic, social, and climate challenges affecting family farming. The text offers recommendations for designing comprehensive and multisectoral policies to facilitate youths' access to land, credit, and sustainable technologies, thereby promoting sustainable rural development.
