Description

The USDA, through the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), funds programs that promote learning, health, and opportunity in tribal communities, investing approximately $28 million in 2020. Land-grant tribal colleges and universities integrate Native culture into their curricula and collaborate with other universities to address local issues such as forest conservation and water quality. Programs such as the Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program and New Beginning for Tribal Students support formal and informal education, youth development, and agricultural productivity, in addition to improving tribal student retention and graduation.
