Description

Latin America and the Caribbean have reduced hunger and food insecurity for two consecutive years thanks to social protection and post-COVID recovery programs. However, inequalities persist, affecting women, rural populations and vulnerable groups. Healthy diets remain the most expensive, and climate variability and extreme events aggravate food insecurity, reducing productivity, affecting supply chains and raising prices. The region will not achieve most of the nutrition targets of the SDGs, so there is an urgent need to transform agrifood systems to make them more resilient and sustainable. The publication proposes policies to improve food security and reduce malnutrition.
