The National Service of Agri-Food Health and Safety (Senasa), of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), reinforces measures to combat the spread of screwworm, a parasitic disease that affects the livestock sector. With 586 confirmed cases in 15 departments of the country, the authorities have implemented actions to protect the health of livestock and mitigate the economic impact of the disease, while urging the population to take measures to prevent and counteract the screwworm. The general director of SAG-Senasa, Ángel Emilio Aguilar, reported that the disease has already affected 15 of the country's 18 departments, mainly concentrated in the border areas with Nicaragua.
