Description

This document analyzes the challenges and opportunities of the agricultural sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting its key role in three priorities: ensuring food security, increasing farm income and reducing the environmental footprint. It examines issues such as rural poverty, stagnating productivity and climate change, and evaluates agricultural policies based on international and IDB Group experiences. It identifies barriers such as lack of infrastructure, investment in research, unsustainable practices and inequalities. It proposes a comprehensive approach to strengthen institutions, promote climate-resilient technologies and support sustainable practices, in order to achieve a productive, sustainable and inclusive agricultural sector.
