Challenges in the cocoa value chain Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 for deforestation-free marketing EUDR

The document analyzes the challenges and opportunities in the cocoa value chain in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Brazil, in the context of the European Union Regulation 2023/1115 (EUDR) on deforestation-free products. Using a think tank methodology, experts and key stakeholders identified legal, social and technical challenges related to sustainability, traceability and formalization of cocoa production. In addition, the analysis highlights the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, adoption of innovative technologies and public-private cooperation to meet EUDR requirements and promote sustainable and responsible supply chains in the region.
