Description

The article analyzes the influences of NAFTA and the WTO Agreement on Agriculture on the reform of the Mexican agricultural sector during 1994-2012. It examines three main aspects: market access, producer subsidies and export subsidies, assessing how these trade agreements shaped Mexico's domestic agricultural policy. The study shows that these agreements operate in a complementary manner and that there are areas where the Mexican state has room for action that has not been sufficiently used to promote sectoral development policies. The results show significant impacts on the transformation of the Mexican agricultural sector, particularly in terms of trade liberalization and producer support.
