The report highlights the critical role of education in addressing the climate crisis. It sets out three main objectives: 1) using education to promote pro-climate behaviours and awareness of climate change, 2) developing green skills in tertiary education to facilitate the transition to sustainable economies, and 3) adapting education systems to make them more resilient to the effects of climate change. Among the most significant findings, the report reveals that only 1.5% of climate finance is allocated to education, despite its potential impact on climate change mitigation and adaptation. Globally, education systems in low-income countries lose, on average, 18 school days annually due to extreme weather events, while in high-income countries the loss is approximately 2.4 days. Furthermore, the report shows that education can not only raise awareness, but also catalyse behavioural changes and foster practical skills that are essential to respond to today’s climate challenges.
