Description

The purpose of this document is to present a preliminary assessment of the main products exported by Latin America and the Caribbean to the EU that could be affected by the full entry into force of the RD, identifying also the countries whose shipments to that market show a higher concentration of such products. The rest of the document is structured as follows. Section I presents the main provisions of the RD and the information demands it will generate for the region's producers. Section II then examines regional trends in the production and trade of the products included in the RD over the past two decades. Section III analyzes the main products exported by the region that could be impacted by the standard, taking trade flows in 2022 as a reference. Section IV estimates the potential impacts of the RD on employment in the region. Section V focuses specifically on the challenges that this instrument presents to small Latin American cocoa and coffee producers. Finally, section VI presents some final reflections.
